Lodge President and Exalted Ruler
David Workman is a musician, entrepreneur, husband, and man of faith.
Born during the waning moments of the 1950s, David’s musical influences included the sounds of Jazz, and 1960’s soul and R&B. Having grown up in church, the songs and hymns of the day have also influenced him and stayed dear to his heart.
In his early teen years, theater tech and production also added to David’s love of the arts. “I remember crawling up on the ‘catwalks’ lifting ‘PAR cans,’ ‘Lekos’ and ‘ellipses’ by rope 40' from the house floor, then having to hang and aim them onto the stage. That’s fun stuff when you’re 13 years old. I learned a lot.”
At Wilson High School in Portland, Oregon, David became the Student Director of the Sr. Choir and Sr. Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. Merle Lotz. In his Senior year at Wilson, David was awarded Vocalist of the Year, along with his friend, Jeffrey Vaughn, and was also selected as the Featured Male Vocalist of the 1977 Rose Festival Queen’s Coronation.
David’s love of music, composition, arranging, production and church music provided the perfect platform for his 35+ years in what is now referred to as the Worship Arts. During the 1980s, David was the drummer for the Contemporary Christian “Blue-Eyed Soul” band, Northbound, and became a published composer.
During the early years of music, David also worked in business management and has owned several businesses (including printing & graphics, and website design). Over the past few years, David has transitioned into a full-time entrepreneur and part-time musician.
David and Carol Workman have been married since 2013. In 2016, they began developing their door security device called SecuraDoor and launched their business, Monarch Security Innovations Corp (MSIC Global). David runs the business, while Carol is a Registered Nurse working in Labor & Delivery at Tri-City Medical Center.
Musically, David is a member of the American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP), and the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (ASMAC). He is currently working on a recording project called, "Reimagined," re-arranging old church songs into an adult contemporary format.
David has been an Elk since December of 2018 and a member of the Jolly Corks since May of 2019. Before being elected as the Exalted Ruler for FY 2020-2021, he also served as the Lodge Chaplain and the Esteemed Leading Knight.
In leadership, David strives for a Servant-Leadership style, referring to the book by Robert K. Greenleaf (author of The Power of Servant Leadership). David also believes that “None of us is as smart as ALL of us.” David was once asked how he would like to be remembered, he replied, “May it be said that David Workman ran the best race he could… with feet of clay, and a worshipper’s heart."
